Ideas to Foster Development of Fine Motor, Visual Motor, and Speech Skills!
Play-Doh is an easy toy with an endless number of possibilities to foster development of creativity, learning, play, motor skill, and speech development!
Shape It! The ability to shape and re-shape Play-Doh makes it an ideal toy for learning colors, shapes, numbers, and letters! Your child can use their fine motor skills to make Play-Doh snakes to shape into letters, shapes, and numbers to assist with formation and recognition! Kinesthetic learning combined with play is so beneficial for making new neural connections!
Scavenger Hunt! You can hide small items such as beads, coins, erasers, beans, or LEGOs and have your child maneuver through the Play-Doh to find them! This activity promotes visual motor, fine motor, bilateral coordination, and hand and finger strengthening! You can add to this task by having your child count, sort, or stack the pieces they find!
Scissor Skills! While your child is learning to use scissors, Play-Doh is a great material that gives a good amount of feedback as they are cutting through it. You can vary the thickness, and the resistance helps strengthen hand and finger muscles!
Play Skills! The unlimited possibilities for Play-Doh creations are ideal to foster creativity, independent play, and interactive play! Your child can make food, flowers, animals and describe them, play with you, and play with peers! They can engage in cooperative play and collaborate on what to creat, how to create it, and sharing materials!
Get creative! There are so many ways to work on skills to improve your child’s fine motor, strength, visual, play, and speech skills with Play-Doh!
