What do our Pediatric Occupational Therapists do?
Occupational therapists are professionals who help in day-to-day activities and to develop, maintain, and improve skills needed for daily living. Pedaitric physical therapists are experts in helping children achieve fine motor, sensory, play, self-care, and social-emotional skills through play-based skilled occupational therapy treatment.
“Occupation” is not typically a term used for children, but a child’s main job is to play and learn as they grow! Our therapists work with children of all ages and evaluate play skills, school performance, sensory integration, and performance of daily activities to help them be independent and successful as they grow.
We can provide screenings to ensure your child is on track with fine motor, self-care, play, and social-emotional milestones so they are able to participate with friends, family, and their community!
Occupational therapists can assist in creating a routine at home for self-care skills and participation at home. They can work on fine motor skills for developing grasp for play and handwriting skills, hand-eye coordination for play in sports, and coordination skills to assist with feeding!
Occupational therapists also have a specialized “toolbox” to assist with children who have sensory, attention, and behavioral needs and can share their “tools” to assist in regulation and carryover outside of therapy!
Our occupational therapists work with you to develop a customized home exercise program to facilitate caregiver involvement with development to maximize your child’s potential for reaching milestones and goals!
If you have any concerns regarding your child’s development of gross motor, fine motor, or speech skills and want to find out ways we can assist, please call our office for a free consultation/screening or to schedule a full evaluation.
