Families may seek a feeding consultation for many different reasons. You may be wondering whether your child is meeting feeding milestones, concerned about an extremely limited diet, struggling with stressful family meals, or finding that eating at restaurants, school, daycare, or other community settings has become difficult. Some families are navigating more complex feeding concerns, including a diagnosis such as ARFID, while others have a child who is already participating in traditional feeding therapy but is not carrying those skills over at home, at school, or with caregivers. A consultation creates dedicated time to look at those real-life challenges and determine what may be getting in the way.

Feeding consultation can be used as a stand-alone service for families who want expert guidance around a specific concern, or as an add-on to ongoing feeding therapy when additional caregiver support and problem-solving are needed. A feeding specialist can help families identify practical next steps, adjust routines or strategies, and create a clear plan for helping feeding progress move beyond the therapy room and into everyday life.

Feeding & Mealtime Solutions Consultation

Our feeding consultations are provided by a highly experienced pediatric speech-language pathologist with advanced training in pediatric feeding, including SOS Approach to Feeding training, CAN-EAT Approach training, and certification in Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy. She also works collaboratively with medical feeding teams in our community, allowing us to approach feeding concerns with an understanding of the many factors that can contribute to a child’s feeding difficulties.

Before your consultation, you may submit a video clip up to 10 minutes in length showing a typical meal or snack. Your feeding therapist will review the video for information related to feeding behaviors, oral-motor skills, positioning, sensory responses, food presentation, caregiver-child interactions, and mealtime routines.

Video review is included within the consultation service. Your virtual caregiver consultation will typically last approximately 45 minutes, during which your therapist will discuss observations, answer questions, and provide individualized recommendations and practical strategies for your family.
